From July 19 to 21, the Municipal Science and Technology Bureau hosted the finals of the sixth “Tongchuanghui” Science and Technology Entrepreneurship Competition, featuring the Growth‑Stage Enterprises, Start‑up Enterprises, and Team categories. A total of 145 projects advanced to the finals across the three categories. Through pitch presentations, entrepreneurs showcased their innovative ideas, product strengths, and market prospects, with 76 projects earning qualification for the provincial science and technology innovation competition’s industry‑specific rounds—ranking second in the province in terms of qualifying entries.

A meticulously prepared competition, “Tongchuanghui,” is an innovation-and‑entrepreneurship service brand launched in 2016 by the Municipal Science and Technology Bureau to closely align with emerging trends in the field. After years of careful management, it has grown into the city’s largest, most influential, and most comprehensive platform for innovation and entrepreneurship.

Since the competition was launched in April, the organizing committee has made meticulous preparations.

First, we launched a multi-channel publicity campaign, producing over 300 promotional posters, deploying three large outdoor digital billboards, broadcasting during the morning rush hour on local radio, and sharing content across various media platforms. These efforts attracted a total of 1,640 project registrations; following eligibility screening, 1,378 applications were deemed valid—up 23% from last year—placing us second in the province and marking a new all-time high.

Second, the multi-sector competition is divided into six industry categories—next-generation information technology, biopharmaceuticals, high-end equipment manufacturing, new materials, new energy/new-energy vehicles, and energy conservation and environmental protection—covering the city’s key strategic emerging industries and expanding the network of innovation and entrepreneurship.

Third, through a variety of measures, the Municipal Science and Technology Bureau has prepared policies covering prize money, innovation-and-entrepreneurship subsidies, science-and‑technology finance, bank credit lines, and implementation support, thereby fully motivating entrepreneurs to participate.
A spectacular match

High-definition, oversized screens, professional hosts, entrepreneurs waiting to take the stage, expert judges seated in the front row, a real-time scoring system that displays results instantly, and a “cloud‑based roadshow” all combined to make the finals venue both thrilling and deeply ceremonial.

This year’s competition brought together entrepreneurial teams comprising high-tech enterprises, technology‑focused SMEs, research institutes, and university faculty, while also attracting a number of teams from both within and outside Shanghai, Suzhou, Wuxi, and other cities.

High-tech enterprises are both pioneering and highly growth‑oriented. Jiangsu Huifeng Environmental Protection Technology Co., Ltd. is dedicated to developing an eco‑friendly composite adhesive that can replace solvent‑based adhesives, with applications across the automotive industry’s value chain. The company aims to address critical bottlenecks in polymer materials by substituting domestic products for imports, thereby revitalizing China’s manufacturing sector. Its entry earned it a direct berth in the provincial advanced carbon materials competition thanks to its outstanding innovation.
Technology-based small and medium-sized enterprises are more innovative and have brighter market prospects.
Nantong Weiteng Semiconductor Technology Co., Ltd. specializes in providing tailored product solutions for precision dicing processes in the semiconductor, optical communications, and advanced functional materials industries. Its newly developed wafer-level dicing blades have broken through international technology barriers, serving as a domestically produced alternative that addresses critical technical challenges in precision cutting and enhances the competitiveness of China’s semiconductor companies. The company’s entry ranked at the top of the Growth Enterprise category with outstanding results.
A startup team matters more than the idea or the team’s capabilities.
The Yuanshi Tiangong team focuses on two core product offerings: a cloud-based integrated toolset for model development and governance, and industry‑specific mechanistic modeling customization software. These solutions are widely deployed across industrial sectors such as national defense, aerospace, energy, and precision manufacturing, effectively reducing the costs of AI adoption for traditional enterprises and accelerating the digital transformation of industry. The team has earned strong recognition from on‑site investors and is poised to establish its base in Nantong’s Innovation Zone. In a highly successful competition, the Municipal Science and Technology Bureau aims to transform “Tongchuanghui” into a permanent platform for advancing technology transfer, nurturing tech‑driven startups, and fostering the growth of emerging industries. The initiative seeks to cultivate a vibrant ecosystem for science‑and‑technology entrepreneurship and promote an entrepreneurial culture rooted in innovation. The competition has helped build an ecosystem where innovation and finance are deeply intertwined, attracting more than ten venture capital firms and financial institutions. This has encouraged banks, investors, and other stakeholders to channel social capital toward innovation and entrepreneurship. To date, over 30 projects have received investment offers, with some already moving into concrete collaboration. Meanwhile, the event serves as a showcase for local companies’ cutting‑edge technologies and groundbreaking products, complemented by a series of in‑depth programs—including startup boot camps and project mentoring—designed to strengthen firms’ innovation capabilities and accelerate the commercialization of scientific and technological advances.
